Frequently Asked Questions

A straightforward guide to what it’s like to work with me.

Emotional Safety & Getting Started

What if I don’t know what I need yet?

L
K
That’s completely fine. You don’t need a plan or a goal to begin. We’ll start with what feels most present right now and go from there, one calm step at a time.

What if I feel emotional-cry, laugh, or get frustrated?

L
K
All of it is welcome. Coaching is a space where feelings can move. We don’t try to stop or fix emotions — we get curious about what they’re showing you.

What if I feel like I “should” be able to handle this on my own?

L
K

Many of the women I work with feel this way. It’s a habit your body and mind learned a long time ago: “I cope by staying strong and doing it myself.”

This habit often developed as a way to protect you.

In holistic life coaching, we don’t fight that habit or try to push it away. We simply notice it, understand where it came from, and give your system a new experience:

  • First, through the Reset part of the Reset & Renew Path, we help your body feel a bit safer and less on edge.
  • From there, in the Renew steps, we look at the belief underneath (“If I don’t handle this, everything will fall apart”) and gently explore kinder, more realistic options.

You’re not weak for wanting support. You’re learning a new way to be supported, so you don’t have to carry everything alone.

Do I have to share my whole life story?

L
K

No. You share only what feels right in the moment. Sessions move at your pace. This is about how you’re feeling now, not retelling your past.

I’ve tried other self-help or coaching programs—how is this different?

L
K

This work starts with calming your body first, then gently shifting the patterns of thought that keep you tight or stuck. We focus on self‑support, not self‑criticism, so real change can take root without pressure.

Why this works It’s hard to think clearly when you’re on edge. When your nervous system settles, clarity returns, and gentle, lasting changes become possible.

Is this coaching or therapy? How are they different?

L
K

What I offer is holistic life coaching, not therapy.

  • Therapy is provided by licensed mental health professionals. It often focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, processing trauma, and working in depth with past experiences and emotional pain.
  • Coaching is generally more present‑ and future‑focused. We start with where you are now and focus on clarity, nervous system support, and small, realistic changes in your daily life.

In our work together, we use the Reset & Renew Path to help calm your body, soften self‑judgment, and choose micro‑actions that fit your real life. I do not diagnose, treat, prescribe, or manage medications, and coaching is not a replacement for medical or mental health care.

Coaching can complement therapy, but it does not replace it. If you’re in crisis or concerned about your mental health, please reach out to a licensed therapist or doctor.

Coaching with Me

What’s it like to work with you?

L
K
Sessions are quiet spaces to breathe, notice what’s happening inside, and find kinder ways to see yourself. We start by calming the body, then explore the thoughts or patterns asking for attention. From there we choose one small, realistic step you can take in daily life.

Do I need a specific goal to start life coaching?

L
K
Not at all. Some people arrive with a clear focus; others just know they’re tired of how things feel. Wherever you are, we begin there. Together, we focus on what helps you feel steadier in your own mind and body.

Will you tell me what to do with my life?

L
K
No. You already hold the answers that fit you best. My role is to help you listen more closely — to notice what supports you and what drains you. The guidance grows naturally from there.

What kinds of challenges do you help with?

L
K
Many people come to me with overwhelm, burnout, self‑doubt, or relationship strain. I also work with feeling stuck, numb, or “not myself.” Read more in How I Can Help.

How We’ll Work Together

Is this medical care or functional medicine?

L
K
No. Although I am a physician with training in functional medicine, in this space I am serving as a holistic life coach. Coaching does not include diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, or medical management, and it is not a substitute for care from your personal healthcare or mental health providers. If you are seeking functional medicine or medical treatment, it is best to work directly with a clinician in that role.

What happens in a coaching session?

L
K
Each 50‑minute session is shaped around what you most need that day. We begin by noticing what’s been shifting, explore the challenges that feel most present, and practice small, gentle ways of thinking and responding that help calm your nervous system and bring clarity. Read more about coaching with me in My Approach.

How long are sessions and how often should I schedule them?

L
K
Sessions last 50 minutes. Most people start with weekly sessions to build a steady rhythm. The pace is always set by what helps you stay supported without feeling rushed.

Can we meet virtually?

L
K
Yes. All coaching sessions take place virtually over Zoom, so you can join from home or any quiet space. Many clients appreciate being in a familiar environment, which can make it easier to relax, notice what you’re feeling, and integrate the work into daily life.

How long do people usually work with you?

L
K
Many clients work together for three to six months, giving time for new patterns and micro‑actions that stick to take root. Some choose to continue longer for ongoing steadiness and support. We’ll check in regularly to ensure the pace and structure still feel right for you.

The Reset and Renew Path

To help you create lasting, steady change, we use the Reset and Renew Path.
This gentle, body‑first approach helps you notice patterns and thoughts that may be keeping you tense or stuck.

Insight alone isn’t enough — your body also needs to feel safe before new choices can take hold. Current research supports this body‑first way of calming the nervous system and working with thoughts.

By calming the body first, then exploring beliefs with curiosity, you learn to choose a kinder way of seeing yourself.

That’s how small actions start to stick, and life begins to feel a little lighter and more your own.

What is the Reset and Renew Path?

L
K

It’s a gentle, body‑first way to work with stress and old patterns. We start with a Reset—calming your body so your thoughts can settle. From that grounded place, we move into Renew—noticing the story you’re telling yourself, choosing a kinder belief, and taking one small step that supports it.

Reset helps your nervous system feel a bit safer. Renew helps your mind loosen its grip on harsh self‑talk. Together, they make it easier for micro‑actions that stick to grow over time.

You can read more about how this looks in practice on the My Approach page.

Is there any science behind this, or is it just “mindset work”?

L
K
This approach uses simple language, but it is grounded in current research on how the nervous system and brain respond to stress, emotion, and small changes over time.

In our work together, we draw from several evidence‑based ideas:

Slow, steady breathing with a longer exhale. Gentle breath work can support the vagus nerve and calm the body’s stress response. This is one way we help your nervous system shift out of constant alarm so you can think more clearly. (Zaccaro et al., Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2018)

Labeling emotions. Briefly putting feelings into words can reduce reactivity in the amygdala and engage the prefrontal cortex. In simple terms, naming what you feel helps quiet alarm and bring your thinking brain back online. (Lieberman et al., Psychological Science, 2007)

Stepping back from thoughts and gently reframing them. Practices like cognitive defusion and reappraisal help you see thoughts as events in the mind, not hard facts. This can shrink loops of distress, self‑attack, and overthinking. (Hayes et al., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, 2011; Gross, Emotion Regulation, 2015)

Tiny, realistic actions (micro‑actions). Small, doable actions taken consistently can restore a sense of “I can handle this” and lift mood. This is related to behavioral activation, which has strong support in the clinical literature. (Mazzucchelli et al., Clinical Psychology Review, 2009)

Savoring moments of steadiness. Pausing to notice and “take in” states of calm or relief helps program emotional memory and resilience. Over time, this makes it easier for your system to find its way back to calm. (Fredrickson, Broaden‑and‑Build Theory, 2001)

You do not need to know any of these names or theories for this work to help. My role is to hold the science in the background and translate it into calm nervous system support, gentle coaching, and micro‑actions that stick in your real life. The Reset and Renew Path gathers what we know from this kind of research and turns it into practices you can actually use in an already full life

How do I know it will work for me?

L
K

Most people notice a quiet ease right away—less tension, more space to breathe. The method meets you where you are and builds naturally from there.

When your body feels calmer and your perspective softens, small actions begin to stick. Over time, steadier days start to feel more possible.

If you like details, you can read about the gentle science behind this approach in the question above.

How do I incorporate this into my busy life?

L
K

You don’t need extra time or a big plan. Reset and Renew can take less than five minutes. It is permission to pause.

Simply breathe and notice your body. Ask yourself, “What might feel a little kinder right now?” Then take one small step—stretch, open a window, write a quick note, or just let your shoulders drop for a moment.

Even these tiny shifts can bring a quiet sense of ease. When repeated over time, they become micro‑actions that stick and support you in the middle of real life.

If you would like gentle guidance to practice this, you can sign up for the free Reset & Renew mini‑course at the bottom of this page. It walks you through small, five‑minute steps to calm your body, soften your thoughts, and take one kinder action at a time.

Booking a Complimentary Discovery Session

What is a complimentary Discovery Session?

L
K
It’s a 20‑minute call where we slow things down together. You can share what’s been feeling heavy or unclear, and I’ll help you sense whether this coaching approach feels like a good fit — with no pressure to commit. Read more about the Discovery Session.

Do I need a goal or plan before the session?

L
K
No. You don’t need a clear goal or plan. The session focuses on curiosity, identifying what matters most to you, and exploring what’s ready to shift in a safe and supportive environment.

What happens during the Discovery Session?

L
K
We’ll take a few minutes to get grounded, talk about what’s been feeling hard, and explore small, realistic ways forward. You’ll get a sense of how this gentle, body‑first coaching works and whether it resonates for you.

What if I feel emotional or uncertain during the session?

L
K
That’s completely okay. Emotions are part of how your system recalibrates. You don’t have to hold anything together here — we’ll move at your pace, with grounding pauses whenever you need them.
